A Preparedness Model for Mother–Baby Linked Longitudinal Surveillance for Emerging Threats

چکیده

Public health responses often lack the infrastructure to capture impact of public emergencies on pregnant women and infants, with limited mechanisms for linking their infants nationally monitor long-term effects. In 2019, Centers Disease Control Prevention (CDC), in close collaboration state, local, territorial departments, began a 5-year initiative establish population-based mother–baby linked longitudinal surveillance, Surveillance Emerging Threats Mothers Babies Network (SET-NET). The objective this report is describe an expanded surveillance approach that leverages modernizes existing systems address emerging threats during pregnancy infants. Mother–baby pairs are identified through prospective identification and/or infant retrospective maternal information. All data obtained from sources (e.g., electronic medical records, vital statistics, laboratory reports, department investigations case reporting). Variables were selected inclusion key questions proposed by CDC subject matter experts. General variables include demographics history, outcomes, results, child outcomes up second birthday. Exposure-specific modular included hepatitis C, syphilis, Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19). system structured into four relational datasets (maternal, birth, infant/child follow-up, testing). SET-NET provides has already demonstrated rapid adaptation COVID-19. This innovative rapidly collects informs clinical guidance practice. These can help reduce exposure risk adverse among direct action, strengthen systems.

Anticipating the species jump: surveillance for emerging viral threats.

Zoonotic disease surveillance is typically triggered after animal pathogens have already infected humans. Are there ways to identify high-risk viruses before they emerge in humans? If so, then how and where can identifications be made and by what methods? These were the fundamental questions driving a workshop to examine the future of predictive surveillance for viruses that might jump from ani...

A Public Health Preparedness Logic Model: Assessing Preparedness for Cross-border Threats in the European Region

Improving preparedness in the European region requires a clear understanding of what European Union (EU) member states should be able to do, whether acting internally or in cooperation with each other or the EU and other multilateral organizations. We have developed a preparedness logic model that specifies the aims and objectives of public health preparedness, as well as the response capabilit...

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...

Enhancing preparedness for tackling new epidemic threats.

New and re-emerging infectious diseases cause much human suffering worldwide. Many of these diseases are zoonoses with epidemic potential. All sub-Saharan African regions are highly biodiverse with large rural populations that are highly dependent on livestock agriculture. Movement of pathogens between animals and people increases as the domestic populations expand, creating novel ecotones and ...
